Virat Kohli, the Royal Challengers Bangalore captain, has been declared match fit by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday (April 13) and as a result, he is now available for his team's next fixture in the 2017 Indian Premier League against Mumbai Indians in Bangalore on April 14.
Kohli was initially sidelined with a shoulder injury that he sustained in the third Test against Australia last month and had stressed on taking the field only after regaining full fitness keeping the Champions Trophy in mind. "The Indian Captain had undergone rehabilitation after sustaining an injury to his right shoulder and has now recovered to be able to participate in VIVO IPL 2017," the BCCI said in a statement.
The news will come in as a massive boost for the franchise after their indifferent start to the tournament where they have lost two matches and won one to languish at sixth place in the table. They have particularly struggled in the batting department in the absence of Kohli, KL Rahul and AB de Villiers (who missed the first two matches). With Chris Gayle and Shane Watson also failing to fire at the top of the order, Kohli's presence is all set to ease their woes. The 28-year-old opened the innings last season and scored 973 runs that included four centuries at an outstanding average of 81.08.
